Recommendations for Course Placement 6-8

GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR INCOMING 6TH GRADERS

Ms. Leah Sapp, Department Chairperson

The following should be considered when making recommendations for student placement in 6th grade Comprehensive Science courses

 

  1. 1.    Advanced Comprehensive Science 1

Academic grade of A or A/B in 5th grade science
Demonstrate ability to work cooperatively in groups
Demonstrate the ability to work independently
Demonstrate ability to construct and interpret graphs
Excellent study skills and work habits (homework and project completion)
FCAT Reading & Mathematics scores of 4 or 5
Fall/Winter Interim Assessment scores 70% and above
Students recommended for the Advanced or Advanced/Gifted classes should have completed an Excellent or Superior level science fair project in the 5th grade.

2.  Regular Comprehensive Science 1

 

Academic grade of B, C or D in 5th grade Science
Demonstrates good listening skills and is able to follow directions
Demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively in groups
Students recommended for the regular Comprehensive Science classes should have completed a science fair project in the 5th grade

 

  1. 3.    Gifted Advanced Comprehensive Science 1

 

  • Students must be staffed into the gifted program
  • Meet the requirements for Advanced Comprehensive Science placement (#1 above)
